Pink Slips Hitting Inkster Police Department

INKSTER (WWJ) - Pink slips are hitting the Inkster Police Department effective Monday -- when the city will lay off 12 officers.

Inkster Police Chief Gregory Gaskins says he's not happy about the layoffs, but the city's money problems have left them no other choice. And these cuts come on top of others: Two other officers resigned and four civilians were let go last week. The chief said some lieutenants and sergeants have also been demoted as part of the reorganization plan.

Inkster residents will notice some changes, as well. They'll no longer be able to obtain police reports five days a week because  the Records Department will only be open to the public on Tuesdays.
