MPowered Career Fair Set: Companies can now sign up to recruit at the MPowered Career Fair on Jan. 12. The event offers companies the opportunity to meet and hire University of Michigan talent, network with other companies, and gain the opportunity to apply for a Small Company Internship Award that covers half the cost of a summer internship. This is the only career fair on UM's campus focused on small and startup companies. The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on UM's North Campus. Registration is $125 through Jan. 2 and $150 from Jan. 3 to Jan. 11. BBC Etc. Offers SBIR, STTR Writing Workshops: Join the experts at BBC Etc. for everything you need to know about writing proposals for Department of Defense and Department of Energy Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer grants on Dec. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The venue is the West Michigan Science and Technology Initiative, housed in the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences, 301 Michigan St. NE, Grand Rapids. The DoD's SBIR solicitation was released Nov. 12, and topics for solicitation fo rthe DoE were released Tuesday. Experts from BBCetc will conduct a one-day workshop that will provide information on proposal preparation requirements for DoD and DoE SBIR/STTR proposals. Topics will include current information on the SBIR/STTR program and the agency's proposal submission processes; detailed instruction on preparing the technical and commercialization components of a competitive proposal; and tips to prepare effective budgets for SBIR proposals. Attendees should be technology-based entrepreneurs and small companies seeking funding for R&D with plans to submit a proposal within the next two months.
