Update: Power Restored In Troy, Rochester Road Remains Blocked

TROY (WWJ) - An overnight accident took down some power lines on a busy road in Troy, making the Thursday morning commute a bit more hectic for local motorists.

A multi-vehicle crash early in the morning took down a utility pole and some heavy duty power lines, leaving the pole sitting at a 45-degree angle along the road.

DTE Energy is on the scene working to get everything put back together, as crews will need to replace the entire pole. Drivers were without Rochester Road for the bulk of the morning rush. Power was restored to the area during the early afternoon, Troy police said, but the roadway remains closed while clean up continues.

Troy officers revealed the cause of the collision in which one person was injured. It happened when a vehicle traveling southbound on Rochester Road rear ended another vehicle southbound on Rochester.

The vehicle that rear ended the other vehicle continued southbound after the initial accident running down several mailboxes and a street sign before colliding with a large utility pole on the west side of Rochester Road, north of Square Lake.

The collision with the utility pole caused the vehicle to overturn and broke the utility pole off at ground level. The driver of the vehicle that struck the utility pole was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash; it appears the driver suffered a medical emergency, police said.

Electrical power had to be cut off in the surrounding area while DTE repaired the utility pole. For more traffic updates, click here
