Son Of Contours Founder Murdered In Detroit

(Detroit-WWJ)  Detroit Police say the son of one of a founding member of the Motown singing group The Contours was shot to death at the Detroit night club he managed early New Year's Day.

Police say 39 year-old LaMark Billingslea was shot in the neck as he tried to break up a fight between patrons of HR's Lounge on Detroit's northeast side.

Billingslea was the son of Joe Billingslea, who helped start The Contours, which had a string of Motown hits in the 1960's, including "Do You Love Me?"

A police spokeswoman says two women were also wounded. They were treated at a hospital and released.

Friends of Billingslea did not wait for an ambulance and started to drive the wounded man to a hospital, but got into an accident. Detroit Police then took over. Billingslea was prounced dead at a hospital.

As of late Monday night, police had no suspects in custody.
