'Ferndale Soup' Brings New Business Ideas To The Table

FERNDALE (WWJ) - A micro-grant program is coming to Ferndale ... and you can join in.

The Ferndale Soup, modeled off of its Detroit counterpart, is a monthly dinner in which attendees pay $5 for a meal, listen to several ideas for small projects, and vote on the best one.

The winner then gets all the money collected at the dinner to use as they get to work on their project.

Andy Didorosi is president of Paper Street Ferndale, where the new event will be held on Sunday.

"Ferndale has a great art community - a huge art community but it also has a lot of small family, middle aged - dreamer types that still have huge goals so it's totally set up for this population," said Didorosi.

"I love the concept and I thought that - that had to come to Ferndale because we have such an entrepreneural upstart city ... from the start - I mean it's dyed in the grain that way," Didorosi said.

The first ever Ferndale Soup will be Sunday night.
