"Joyful Noise" Is Fun, Funny And Uplifting

HOLLYWOOD (WWJ) - Mark Wahlberg's "Contraband" is number one at the box office this weekend. But, there is another new movie in theaters that's worth a look.

It's "Joyful Noise" and it stars Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton.

"Joyful Noise" focuses on the sometimes strained relationship between Vi Rose Hill -- played by Latifah -- and G-G Sparrow -- played by Parton. Their church choir has competed in the National Joyful Noise Competition year after year after year, but always come up short. When Latifah opposes choir members who want to make some needed changes to increase their chances of winning, she and Parton butt heads.

Parton talks about what went through her mind when she was asked to star alongside the Queen. "When I read the script, and when they talked about Queen Latifah, I thought there's no way that I would not do this," Parton said. "I think we're all real proud of it. It was meant to be is what I think.

Parton also has nothing but praise for her co-star.

"I like to do my lines and I forget to close the door; I forget to hit my mark, and she's always, you know, just real sympathetic to that," Parton said of Latifah.

The wonderful cast also includes Keke Palmer, Courtney B-Vance, Kris Kristofferson and Jeremy Jordan.
