Woman Allegedly Offered Child For Sex Over Pawn Shop Bill

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ/AP) - Police are investigating a report that a woman offered herself and her young daughter up for sex as payment at a downriver pawn shop.

Southgate police have confirmed they are looking into the claim made by the co-owner of Dasilva's Pawn Shop.

Co-owner Al Hassan said the girl appeared to be about 10 years-old. Her mother said she was trying to stop the store from selling a laptop she pawned for $120.

The mother claims it was a misunderstanding. She told police she made a "joking comment" about rewarding the man for extending her deadline, but did not say anything about her daughter.

The News-Herald of Southgate reported that, as of Wednesday morning, police had not taken any action to remove the girl from her mother's custody. The investigation continues.
