Man Accused Of Setting Landlady On Fire Over Music

HOLLAND TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 30-year-old western Michigan man set his landlady on fire after she complained about his loud music.

Davanh Phouangphet was arraigned Tuesday in Holland District Court on a charge of assault with intent to murder. A judge set his bond at $750,000.

Thong Phouangphet told WZZM-TV that his brother and the 53-year-old owner of the home argued Monday and she told him to take the music to another part of the house or be evicted. It's in Ottawa County's Holland Township.

Police say the tenant poured an accelerant on the woman and set her on fire. Her upper body was burned, but she's expected to live.

Attempts to reach Davanh Phouangphet's court-appointed attorney were unsuccessful.
