Create Your Dream Space: It All Starts At The Home Improvement Show

NOVI (WWJ) - Flooring, interior design, and kitchens are just some of the things you can see at the Home Improvement Show at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi this weekend.

CEO of the Building Industry Association of Southeast Michigan, Mike Stoskoph tells WWJ's Beth Fisher what's most popular:

"Some of the trends are the old mainstays - for example, if you are going to invest in your kitchen or bath you are going to get that money back, plus more in your house - however with that said, the technologies the efficiencies that can go in the home create a much more cost effective implementation  of those designs and create a much more affordable environment for the homeowner," said Stoskoph.

The home improvement show gives would be renovators a look at kitchen cabinets, shower inclosures, hot tubes and sun rooms - Kristin Lewandowski was at the show checking it all out.

"Just to see what they have, every year they are coming out with something new and something different so we are just trying to figure out what we are going to do with the house. It's tax time and the checks are coming in so just really find out where we are going to spend our tax money," said Lewandowski.

Paulson's Construction Design Consultant Tim Suchodolski says the show is busy and 2011 was a good year.

"People are saying with the home values dropping like they have the last several years people are deciding they are going to stay and fix up, " said Suchodolski.

Suchodolski says the most popular renovations are kitchen and bath because they are valuable if you decide to sell.

Many exhibitors say based on the number of people going through the show, the expect a strong 2012.
