Reports: 'Accomplice' Arrested In Jane Bashara's Murder
GROSSE POINTE (WWJ) - Unconfirmed reports said Tuesday that an "accomplice" has been arrested in connection with the murder of 56-year-old Grosse Pointe Park marketing executive Jane Bashara.
Police have reportedly been talking to a "person of interest," but the Wayne County Prosecutor's office issued a statement saying they have not received a warrant request in the case of the woman found murdered in her car last week.
Grosse Pointe Park Police Chief David had no comment when asked about reports that an unnamed person has presented investigators with new information on the case. Hiller said that there would be no statement released on Tuesday.
WWJ's Ron Dewey, Tuesday morning, reported that police had questioned a woman who had a relationship with Jane Bashara's husband Bob Bashara.
According to the Detroit News, the woman told investigators she had dated Mr. Bashara and had listed him as a contact in work-related documents. He had also recently appeared at her Wayne State University office a number of times. The woman reportedly told investigators that Bashara was planning to buy
a house for her.
Jane Bashara's body was found in the back of her Mercedes-Benz SUV parked in an alley at Pinwood and Arnott in Detroit on Wednesday. Her husband reported her missing the night before.
Investigators said they are starting to believe that Bashara was killed in her home, and that her body was driven to Detroit.
Detectives are also looking at evidence which contradicts Bashara's husband's claims that he had no contact with his wife the night she was strangled to death. He didn't pass a lie-detector test administered by police Friday, a police source told The News on Sunday.
An autopsy showed that Bashara had missing fingernails and extensive bruising to her upper body.
WWJ, Tuesday afternoon, returned to the run-down neighborhood eight miles from Bashara's home where her body was found last week.
A utility worker, who would only give his first name of Tim, was working in the neighborhood, near Hoover and Pinewood.
"You see a lot of things going on, you know, but nothing like what was reported the other day. It just takes my breath away to think that something like that could happen," he said.
Tim said he remembers when the neighborhood was one where people hoped to live. Now, it's filled with abandoned homes, many are stripped of metal and some of them burned.
