Fire Damages 4-Unit Condo Building

CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - An alert neighbor spotted the fire in Clinton Township and called 911. The fire broke out Tuesday evening at the Schultz Estates Condo Complex near Garfield and Canal.

WWJ spoke with Fire Chief Jack Shay who said when fire crews arrived, they knew they were going to need additional help:

"We have requested help from Macomb Twp., Sterling Heights, the city of Mount Clemens, Shelby Twp., it was a very, very difficult fire for the fire department," said Shay.

Shay said there were no injuries and no fatalities. Shay says the four units that burned were unoccupied at the time of the fire.

"This particular fire started in the void space in the building and as a result of that it was behind the dry wall or the plaster in the home and because there were four units that were inter-connected the fire was able to spread everywhere very rapidly," Shay said.

Officials say an investigation into the cause of the fire will begin after the fire has been fully extinquished.
