GRAND RAPIDS — Engineered Protection Systems, a residential and business security services provider, will expand its offerings to include a new Medical Alert service later this month.
EPS Medical Alert pairs a state-of-the-art ‘pendant’ communication device with EPS’ award-winning staff of central station operators to offer a live, personalized response to senior citizens wishing to remain living independently at home.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that about one in three Americans over 65 will suffer a fall in a given year, making it the leading cause of accidental death among senior citizens. However, a compelling case is made for installation of a proper medical alert service by The New England Journal of Medicine, which reports that 90 percent of seniors who are helped up from a fall within one hour continue to live independently.
“It was a personal experience that led me to take a closer look at the services currently offered to seniors aging in place, and I thought ‘we can do better than this,’” said David Hood, director of sales and marketing at EPS Security. “We’ve been managing the safety and security of some our state’s largest companies and institutions for nearly 60 years, and we own and manage a Central Station facility that has been recognized by the industry as one of the top in the nation. Why not make use of this expertise to offer a service that allows the safest possible environment for seniors living at home?”
EPS Medical Alert allows seniors to connect directly to EPS Security’s live operators any time of day or night via a small personal pendant device that is worn at all times. The EPS Medical Alert system (www.EpsSecurity.com/services/medical-alert) will cost $34.95 per month (with a one-time $50 activation fee).
The unique hardware utilized by EPS Medical Alert offers coverage that expands well outside of the home to include trips to the mailbox and outdoor gardening chores. In addition, EPS plans to provide response protocol customized to each system so that family members, neighbors and/or caretakers can be contacted in addition to medical response personnel, based on customer preference.
