Compuware Helps Thomas Cook Northern Europe Cut Troubleshooting Time

DETROIT -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq: CPWR) Tuesday announced that Thomas Cook Northern Europe, a leading travel services company, is having great success using the Compuware Gomez and dynaTrace APM solutions to monitor the performance of its customer-facing applications.

With a unified view across the entire application delivery chain, Thomas Cook Northern Europe now has complete visibility into application health and can proactively resolve performance issues before the business is impacted, saving money and time.

Thomas Cook Northern Europe is Europe's most profitable travel group and provides travel services, including flight and hotel purchasing and destination management, to 200 locations across 40 countries. With a strong commitment to delivering exceptional user experience for its customers, application performance is critical to the company's business.

Thomas Cook Northern Europe's IT team was experiencing performance issues with its Web-based bookings system, where response times were occasionally slow during peak season.

Online sales play a major role in generating revenue for Thomas Cook Northern Europe. With 65 percent of the company's business being conducted online and more than 1.4 million users booking trips through the company's Web site yearly, downtime is unacceptable and costly. To ensure that customers have a smooth and positive experience online booking trips, Thomas Cook Northern Europe turned to Compuware for application performance.

"When systems are down, that's costing us money and a loss of revenue, and can also determine if a customer will return to our site to do business with us in the future," said Björn Eriksson, quality assurance manager at Thomas Cook Northern Europe. "So, we knew we needed a better view into the performance and quality of service of our bookings system as well as how our customers were being impacted. The complexity of our IT environment made troubleshooting a difficult task. Using Compuware Gomez, we have cut our troubleshooting time in half and can quickly identify and pinpoint where performance problems are occurring in the application delivery chain before our customers are impacted."

Thomas Cook Northern Europe also uses Compuware dynaTrace in its software production to monitor production systems as well as for acceptance testing to address quality issues before code goes into production.

"With dynaTrace's PurePath Technology we can trace transactions and quickly identify where performance issues are occurring," said Anders Essblad at Thomas Cook Northern Europe. "In one case, we were able to decrease SQL load on our database server by 40 percent using only three development hours."

The Gomez platform is the industry's leading solution for optimizing the performance of Web, non-Web, mobile, streaming and cloud applications. Driven by end-user experience, Gomez provides a unified view across the entire application delivery chain, from a user's browser or mobile device, across the Internet or a corporate WAN, in the cloud, to inside the data center, eliminating blind spots from the First Mile to the Last Mile.
