Man Who Sent Noose To Mixed-Race Couple Gets Jail Time

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 41-year-old Detroit man has received a three-month sentence after pleading guilty to accusations of mailing a noose and photos of lynchings to a black man and his white wife.

Glenn E. Morgan Jr. earlier pleaded guilty to making a mailed threat. U.S. District Judge Robert Cleland also placed Morgan on two years' supervised released, ordered him to perform 200 hours of community service and fined him $2,000.

The government said Morgan admitted that in November 2008, he mailed a noose and photos of black men being lynched and the slain body of Nicole Brown Simpson to the couple.

The government said the envelope also contained messages saying black men who marry white women should be lynched and white women who marry black men would die like Simpson.

U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan Barbara L. McQuade said, "The law protects people from threats and harassment based on their race, and we will prosecute anyone who seeks to racially intimidate members of our community."

The case was investigated by the FBI.
