'Bizarre Foods' Airs From Detroit

Detroit had every kind of food imagineable -- apparently including "bizarre" foods.

Andrew Zimmern, host of the Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods" visited Detroit for an episode that aired Monday night where he described Detroit's "empty buildings and vanished jobs," and said, "But that's not the whole story," and went on to praise Detroit's "tenacity, creativity and stubborn pride."

Zimmern visited Motor City Soul Food, which has a bulletproof serving line, to sample oxtails. He went on to taste soul food at Cafe D'Mongo's, and sample numerous desserts at My Sisters and Me.

He stopped into a Dearborn home for a post-Ramadan feast of spiced tongue, and other Middle East delicacies, and visited a local park where the Detroit Mower Gang lit up the barbecue for a "bizarre foods" cook-off before mowing city property.

"Detroit is definitely on its way up," Zimmern said. Watch a video recap of the episode here.
