Man Charged In Death Of 2-Week-Old Son

KALAMAZOO (WWJ/AP) - A Kalamazoo man is charged with murder after authorities say his 2-week-old son was repeatedly shaken and later died.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports 22-year-old Glenn Ross was arraigned by video Thursday before a Kalamazoo County District Court judge. He sobbed through much of the hearing and asked the court to appoint a lawyer for him.

Police said in a statement they got a 911 call midday Tuesday reporting the baby wasn't breathing.

The Gazette reports a Kalamazoo Public Safety detective testified that Ross told officers "he shook the baby."

"He stated that he slammed the baby twice on the couch and then after that shook the baby repeatedly," the detective said.

The infant was taken to an area hospital, where he died Wednesday night. Charges of felony murder and open murder were authorized Thursday.

Ross, who told the court he lives with his parents, was ordered held on $100,000 bond. He's due back in court March 7.
