Stepmother Guilty In Sex Assault, Murder Of Girl

MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ/AP) - A jury has convicted a southeastern Michigan woman of sexually assaulting and murdering her 2-year-old stepdaughter.

The Macomb County Circuit Court jury convicted 30-year-old Renee King on Monday of felony murder, criminal sexual conduct and child abuse.

The murder charge carries an automatic penalty of life in prison without parole. King covered her face with her hands after hearing the verdict.

Authorities say Lily Wolfenbarger-Furneaux was killed in Nov. 20, 2010, in King's New Haven mobile home.

Macomb County Medical Examiner Daniel Spitz testified during the trial that Lily suffered at least 20 areas of impact on her head and had vaginal injury. King has said the head traumas resulted from two accidental falls, and she denies knowing about the vaginal injury.
