MCWT Sets Annual Membership Meeting: This year's annual membership meeting of the Michigan Council of Women in Technology March 22 will be focused on networking, learning and growing together. Fiserv executive vice president and CIO Maryann Goebel will deliver a dynamic keynote address discussing leadership, the benefits of mentoring and how to further your career in IT. She'll also provide insight into her own career path. SBIR, STTR Introduction Seminars Coming To Detroit, Kalamazoo: Biotechnology Business Consultants will present "SBIR/STTR 101: Introduction and Overview," March 8 in Detroit and march 14 in Kalamazoo. The federal government mandates that about $2.3 billion a year in federal agency research spending goes to small business, into programs called Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer. BBC's half-day workshop covers the SBIR/STTR program basics, including: program purpose; eligibility; and sources of funding. It is designed to provide enough information for attendees to determine if they would like to seriously pursue proposal development. Technology-based entrepreneurs and small companies seeking funding for R&D should attend. The Detroit event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at TechTown, 440 Burroughs St., Detroit. Lunch And Learn On Running A Business With Your Spouse: "Sleeping With Your Business Partner" is the title of a lunch and learn program Thursday, March 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Troy. Jan and Marshall Rice will discuss how to work with your spouse 24-7, and how they founded MichiganMall.com in 1998 -- the first Michigan-centric shopping site on the Internet -- and why they later decided to close up shop. They'll also discuss how they founded the Celebrate Michigan Expo, which today has become the annual Michigan Emerging event.
