Multi-Shooting Near Eastern Michigan University

YPSILANTI (WWJ) -  There is a manhunt underway in Ypsilanti just off the campus of Eastern Michigan University Friday night ... following an apparent multi-shooting.

There are conflicting reports on the number of victims.

A search for a suspect  near the Southeast area of campus is underway at this hour. Police describe the suspect as a black man with a white baggy shirt, blue jeans, red baseball cap, scraggly beard, pierced ears.

Campus police have sent out a warning to faculty and students to stay indoors. The  EMU ALERT! states that a shooting occurred Jarvis/Lowell St near campus. EMU tells students to avoid area until further notice, while police agencies investigate.

WWJ spoke with  Eastern Michigan University spokesperson Pam Young:

"There was a shooting in the city of Ypsilanti at Lowell and Jarvis - so it was not on campus - but it was ... close. There were two victims and as a result we are always very cautious so that's why Eastern Michigan put out an alert, on the raid system," said Young.

"Even though it's not on campus we want to let our students know, and the Ypsi police department is handling the case, our police officers are just assisting," added Young.
