Possible Cougar Reported At U-M Campus

ANN ARBOR (AP) - A report of a possible cougar sighting at the University of Michigan caused a bit of a stir at the home of the Wolverines.

The University of Michigan Department of Public Safety issued an alert Thursday after a report of a suspicious animal on North Campus in Ann Arbor.

Campus police and housing security officials searched the area but didn't find the animal, which was described as a "possible cougar." The department urged area residents to call police if they spotted the animal. Authorities say they didn't find any potential cougar tracks during their search.

The last known wild cougar in Michigan was killed in 1906, but there have been several verified sightings in the Upper Peninsula in recent years.
