Medical Examiner ID's Body As Missing Painter Kent Morton

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Wayne County Medical Examiner has identified a body found in the Detroit River as Kent Morton, a painter who fell from the Ambassador Bridge in January.

A fisherman noticed Morton's body Friday near Zug Island and alerted police.

Crews searched for several days after the 27-year-old Garden City man fell while doing paint and welding work on the center span of the bridge on Jan. 11.

In all, crews scoured a combined search area of nearly 300 square nautical miles of the Detroit River.

"He was just an amazing guy. As an older brother, he was somebody to look up to, he was an amazing dad. Sometimes you don't know what you've got until it's gone. You've got to always remember that," Morton's brother Shane said at a memorial held earlier this year.

Morton's family said they will hold a private memorial service now that his body has been found.
