Shrine Circus Comes To Hazel Park Raceway

HAZEL PARK (WWJ) - The original Detroit Shrine Circus has come to town! It's a tradition that started in 1906 and has continued every year since. This year new attractions include a children's petting zoo with miniature animals and a tiger rack.

Bill Petrocy Director of the circus spoke with WWJ about their new attractions this year.

"We have a tiger rack, we haven't had a tiger rack in many years, there are not that many of them around that we could get. We also have our elephants, dog acts, liberty horses - they are purebred Arabian horses ... (and) a children's petting zoo with miniature animals," said Petrocy.

"It's a good hometown circus, three huge tents - probably the largest tents in the United States at present time; they're heated, waterproof and we are welcoming people," said Petrocy.

The Shrine Circus will be held at Hazel Park Raceway. The circus runs March 30 - April 1, and April 6-8.
