Police Investigate Apparent Double Murder-Suicide

LIVONIA (WWJ) - Authorities in Livonia are investigating a case that appears to be a double murder-suicide, perpetrated by a teen girl's former boyfriend.

A 911 call led officers Wednesday to Sunnydale Street, in the area of Inkster and Five Mile Road, where a young woman said two people had been killed inside the home. When officers arrived, they found three people dead.

Police said a preliminary investigation shows the assailent, identified as 19-year-old Brian White of Livonia, went to the home of a 17-year-old ex-girlfriend. Their relationship appeared to have recently ended.

Once inside, police believe White fatally assaulted the girl's mother, 46-year-old Angela Staperfene and the girl's current boyfriend, 19-year-old Jacob Burns, with an axe.

Police said the girl was injured during a struggle with White, who was later found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The girl, who police said was the 911 caller, was treated and released from a local hospital.

The investigation continues.
