Police say 19-year-old Burns was killed on Wednesday while at his girlfriend's home on Sunnydale, in the area of Inkster and Five Mile Road.

Investigators say the killings started around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, when 19-year-old Douglas White entered the Livonia home and attacked 46-year-old Angela Kim Staperfene in her bedroom. White then moved on to the room where Burns and his 17-year-old girlfriend, Staperfene's daughter and White's ex-girlfriend, were sleeping and attacked Burns.

The girl, a senior at Stevenson High School whose name hasn't been released, was injured during a struggle with White, but was able to call 911 around 12:20 p.m.

White was later located inside the residence with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Police say both Burns and Staperfene died from axe blows to the head.

Police recovered a gun from the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
