3 Handcuffed As Police Search Vehicle On I-696

OAK PARK (WWJ) - Michigan State Police have three people in custody after what appeared to be a traffic stop on I-696 Wednesday morning.

WWJ's Lance Howard, who was over the scene in Chopper 950, said troopers had the ramp from westbound I-696 to Greenfield closed while they handcuffed three people around 8 a.m.

"As we came up on the scene, we saw state police putting at least three people in handcuffs and putting them behind the state police cruisers before they went up and started searching the vehicle," said Howard.

Howard said one of those people arrested may have been waving a gun. Michigan State Police dispatchers say it was only a traffic stop.

The ramp has since reopened.
