Billhighway Welcomes Product Development, Marketing Management Leaders: Troy-based Billhighway, a provider of cloud-based financial management systems for nonprofit organizations, announced the hiring of Charles Medcoff, Senior Developer, and Lisa Van Giesen, Marketing Leader. Medcoff will help drive design and development of Billhighway's comprehensive suite of financial systems that fully integrate financial processing and banking, fundamentally improving how nonprofits operate. Medcoff brings more than 20 years of software engineering experience in product development and consulting. PAT Engineering USA Welcomes Mechanical Engineer to the Team: Rochester Hills-based PAT Engineering USA has hired Edward Itskovich as a mechanical engineer. He ahs a civil engineering degree from his native Ukraine and a mechanical engineering degree and master's degree in engineering from Lawrence Technological University. Itskovich brings to PAT more than 19 years of experience in estimating, proposal process, and project management for both the military and municipalities. Most recently, Edward was the pre-construction manager and chief estimator for IMS in Escanaba. PAT Engineering USA is one of several companies that form the PAT Group of international Engineering, Procurement, Integration and Commissioning construction companies (EPIC). Synthetic Biologics Appoints Michael Kaleko Scientific Director: Ann Arbor-based Synthetic Biologic Inc. (NYSE Amex: SYN), a developer of synthetic DNA-based therapeutics and innovative disease-modifying medicines for serious illnesses, announced today that Michael Kaleko, M.D., has joined the company as scientific director. Kaleko has worked in the field of gene therapy since its inception in the mid-1980s and has extensive experience developing vector platforms, inducible transcription systems and product candidates in multiple disease areas. He brings over 20 years of experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical sector, including 11 years with Genetic Therapy Inc., a Novartis company. From 1999 until 2002, Kaleko co-directed research at Genetic Therapy, where he developed multiple gene transfer and gene expression platform technologies for hemophilia, cancer, diabetes and ocular diseases. In 2002, he co-founded Advanced Vision Therapies, Inc. to develop treatments for eye diseases, including an anti-inflammatory biological for multiple ocular indications. After selling the company in 2005, he continued as Chief Scientific Officer until 2010. Kaleko has published 62 peer-reviewed articles, filed over 30 patent applications and received the Novartis Pharma Research and Development Business Excellence Award for his work in the diabetes field. Kaleko earned Sc.B., M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Brown University, served his medical residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University and completed a fellowship in clinical endocrinology with a focus in gene therapy research at the University of Washington, Seattle.
