Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work

DETROIT (WWJ) - Know before you go! There will be several closures due to construction projects this weekend on almost every major freeway in the Metro Detroit area.

The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.

I-275:

In Wayne County, the ramp from westbound Ann Arbor Road to northbound I-275 will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. Friday and remain closed until May 4.

In Wayne County, the left two lanes of northbound and southbound I-275 will be closed at Plymouth Road from 10 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday for bridge work.

In Wayne County, the left two lanes of northbound and southbound I-275 will be closed between Warren and Plymouth roads from 8 a.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday to put in traffic shift.

Starting at 8 a.m. Sunday until late July, the left lane of northbound I-275 will be closed from Warren to Plymouth roads, while the left lane of southbound I-275 will be closed from Koppernick to Plymouth roads for long-term bridge construction.

In Wayne County, beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 23, the Joy Road overpass above I-275 will be closed until June 1. A detour will be posted.

I-696:

In Oakland County, starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, the right lane of westbound I-696 will be closed from Orchard Lake to Farmington roads for maintenance work. During the same time, the ramp from southbound Orchard Lake Road to westbound I-696 will be closed.

In Macomb County, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday and ending by 3 p.m. Sunday, the left lane of eastbound and westbound I-696 will be closed near Ryan Road for barrier wall work.

In Macomb County, from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. Sunday, there will be a single lane closure on the two lane ramp from eastbound I-696 to eastbound I-94 for survey work.

I-75:

In Oakland County, from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, the northbound I-75 entrance ramp from Joslyn Road will be closed for maintenance work. A detour will be posted.

In Oakland County, beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, there will be a moving left lane closure on northbound I-75 from Rochester to Big Beaver roads for maintenance work.

I-94:

In Macomb County, eastbound and westbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane between 23 Mile Road and County Line Road starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday and ending by 6 a.m. on Monday for putting in a traffic shift.

In Macomb County, a single lane will be closed on westbound I-94 at 12 Mile Road from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday for survey work. From 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, the ramp from 11 Mile Road to westbound I-94 will be closed.

In Macomb County, a single lane will be closed on eastbound I-94 at 12 Mile Road from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday for survey work.

I-96:

In Oakland County, Milford Road under I-96 will be closed from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday for bridge beam placement. A detour will be posted.

M-39 (Southfield Freeway):

In Wayne County, beginning at 5 a.m. and ending by 7 p.m. Saturday, northbound M-39 will have two lanes closed from Allen to Van Born roads, while southbound M-39 will have two lanes closed from Fern to I-94 for ongoing bridge work at the I-94/M-39 interchange.

Old M-14 (Plymouth Road):

In Wayne County, beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday until late May, eastbound and westbound Plymouth Road will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Market Street and Farmington Road for resurfacing.

For the week beginning Monday, April 23:

I-94:

In Wayne County, beginning at 4 a.m. on Monday, April 23, the ramp from eastbound I-94 to northbound M-39 will be closed until mid-June for ongoing bridge work at the interchange.

In Wayne County, sign upgrading along I-94 continues next week with single lane closures scheduled between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Monday, westbound I-94 from Merriman to Vining roads
  • Tuesday, westbound I-94 from Vining to Wayne roads
  • Tuesday, eastbound I-94 from Ozga to Shook roads

I-696 Service Drives:

In Macomb County, the eastbound and westbound I-696 service drives will be reduced to a single lane from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily in locations between I-94 and Groesbeck for resurfacing work.

M-1 (Woodward Ave):

In Oakland County, a permit has been approved to allow the city of Ferndale to close the right lane of northbound Woodward Ave at 9 Mile Road, daily from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., starting Monday April 23 and ending Monday, April 30.
