Coach Accused Of Pushing, Punching Players Resigns

SWARTZ CREEK (AP) - A Flint area lacrosse team coach has resigned after school authorities accused him of pushing one player and punching another from a rival team in the final minutes of a game.

Swartz Creek Community Schools Superintendent Jeff Hall tells Mlive.com for a story Friday that boys' lacrosse coach Mike Lakies decided to resign after the Wednesday incident.

Lakies has been the subject of an investigation by the district after witnesses say he pushed one Bay City Western player and punched another in the helmet near the end of the game between the teams.

The Associated Press left a message Friday at a number listed under Lakies' last name.

Hall says Lakies wasn't a teacher at the school, and assistant coaches are taking over for the rest of the season.
