Toddler Drowns In Lansing Pond

LANSING (AP) - A two-year-old boy has drowned in a pond behind the family's home in Lansing.

WILX-TV says authorities got a call to a house on the city's south side Tuesday morning. It says firefighters waded into the pond and quickly found the young boy's body.

Police spokesman Officer Robert Merrit says the child was rushed to the hospital but couldn't be revived.

The boy's name wasn't immediately released.

Police Sgt. Joe Brown tells the Lansing State Journal the boy was in the water for less than 10 minutes. Brown says the boy was found about five feet from shore.
