Coast Guard Rescues Boater In Detroit River; 1 Missing In Lake Erie

ROCKWOOD (WWJ) - The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued a boater from the Detroit River, as the search continues for a boater who went missing in Lake Erie.

The Coast Guard made the rescue Monday night near Rockwood. Officials say the boater used a VHF-FM marine radio to request help after his 20-foot vessel became adrift near Grosse Ile. Crews from Detroit and Toledo responded by boat and helicopter.

Meanwhile, a Windsor-area man is thought to be missing in Lake Erie. The boater, in his 50s, was out with friends Monday night near Point Pelee when his sailboat capsized. He was not wearing a life jacket. Coast Guard crews on both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border spent the evening searching for him to no avail.
