Police Say Family Of 3 Found Safe In Another State

YIPSILANTI TWP. (WWJ) - Police in Ypsilanti Township say a mother and her two young children, missing since earlier this week, have been found safe in another state.

Police say 29-year-old Alisha Martinez and her kids, 8-year-old Areiyla Middleton and 3-year-old  Elijah Isom, were last seen Tuesday morning at their Ypsilanti Twp. home. Police said the older child hadn't been in school for days.

Derrick Jackson, a spokesman with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department, said the family of three was located Thursday.

"We did locate her. Our biggest question was she safe, were the kids safe. We did talk to her and find out she is doing just fine," Jackson told WDIV. "She definitely knows how much attention she was getting, a lot of people were worried about her and her children, so she definitely knows that now."

Authorities say the family was found in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The family apparently boarded a train that arrived in Albuquerque Thursday afternoon. With the assistance of local authorities and the FBI in Albuquerque, the mother has been interviewed along with the children and they are all fine.

A friend of the family told WDIV that Martinez was having some problems with her live-in boyfriend, Darius Johnson, and she "just wanted to get out of that situation."

Johnson was reportedly the one who notified police that the trio was missing.

After consultations with the prosecutor's office, no charges are pending.
