ORV Crashes, Rollovers Kill 3 In Michigan

BIG RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - At least three people have died in Michigan while riding off-road vehicles during the long holiday weekend.

Authorities say the latest is 40-year-old Matthew Sly of New Era who was riding with two passengers when he tried to make an abrupt stop and rolled his vehicle Sunday in Mecosta County.

Across the state, two men from Fraser died in separate incidents Friday and Saturday in Alcona County.

In one incident, authorities say a 47-year-old man was accidentally run over by his son at Lost Lake Woods Club in Alcona Township.

According to sheriff's officials, Adam Schwab lost control of his off-road vehicle, began to roll over and was ejected. He was then struck by another ORV, driven by his 23-year-old son Scott Schwab, who was following behind him.

The elder Schwab was pronounced dead at the scene. His son was transported to Alpena Regional Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

In the other crash, a vehicle driven by 66-year-old William Weir collided with a sport utility vehicle. Three other people riding with him were injured.
