Major Michigan Employer Finalizing Downtown Detroit Move

DETROIT (WWJ) - A major Michigan employer is celebrating the completion of its move to downtown Detroit today.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan now has more than 6,000 employees working in downtown Detroit, after moving them to the city from Southfield.

Loepp says the company's plans to move actually stemmed from conversations that started several years ago with Detroit Mayor Dave Bing.

"We started the whole move to the Renaissance Center ... 3 years ago when I was talking to the mayor and the decision of GM to stay downtown, but there was gonna be openings because of EDS leaving," Loepp said.

The official announcement comes at an 11 a.m. press conference. WWJ Newsradio 950 and CBS Detroit.com will be there.
