Did A Dead Body Come Over With Canadian Trash?

MONTROSE TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - Authorities suspect his body of a 38-year-old Ontario man likely arrived in Michigan in a shipment of Canadian garbage.

Police said Tuesday they've identified a body found in a Flint-area landfill as that of a Mississauga man who had been missing since last month.

The Flint Journal reports police confirmed the body found Friday by a worker at the Brent Run landfill in Genesee County's Montrose Township was that of Kevin Joseph Arendt.

Police say Arendt was last seen leaving a bar at around 10:30 p.m.  June 27. The cause of death was not immediatly known. Authorities say no foul play is suspected, but the investigation is ongoing.

A manager for the landfill, located about 70 miles northwest of Detroit, said nearly 60-80 percent of the refuse there originates in Canada.  He told the Journal that trash coming into the country from Canada is typically checked by U.S. Customs agents.
