"Youth Day" Coming To Belle Isle With Over 80 Scholarships

DETROIT (WWJ) - Metro Detroit Youth Day will be held this Wednesday on Belle Isle, a day filled with free sports clinics, races, and entertainment.

But, co-chair Ed Deeb tells WWJ's Beth Fisher there's more:

"It's gonna be a fun day for the kids , but it's not all fun & games because we're gonna be givin' out 81 college scholarships that day," said Deeb.

Deeb says those scholarships will go to kids who've been approved for college. He says Tigers great Willie Horton, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, and former Detroit Piston Greg Kelser are all taking part in youth day.

"We're expecting about 34,000- 35,000 kids. It's gonna be one of our largest because it's our 30th annual Metro Detroit Youth Day. I can't believe we've been there 30 years already," said Deeb.

Activities include: free sports clinics, workshops on anti-bullying & obesity, and several colleges will be on hand with information. Deeb says kids between the ages of 8 and 15 can still register.
