Ex-Mich. Gov. Blanchard Weighs In On Romney Taxes
LANSING (AP) - Ex-Michigan Gov. James Blanchard says not releasing more than two years of tax returns could be "fatal" for Republican Mitt Romney's presidential campaign.
Blanchard says Romney may worry the revelation will hurt him in his effort to unseat Democratic President Barack Obama, but it's going to be "far worse" if he doesn't.
Blanchard is a Democrat who served as governor from 1983-1990 and later became U.S. ambassador to Canada.
He told reporters Thursday during an Obama campaign call that the issue will continue to drag at Romney until he shares more information. Blanchard says that Romney's father released 12 years of tax returns during his 1968 presidential run.
In defending Romney, Michigan spokesman Sean Fitzpatrick says Michigan voters are more concerned about rising unemployment than Romney's tax returns.
