Royal Oak Police Witness Stabbing, Biting Attack

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Royal Oak police were investigating a noise complaint on Wednesday when they allegedly witnessed an attempted murder.

Police said 20-year-old Brent Smetana stabbed, struck and bit an older man at an apartment on Greenfield near 13 Mile Road.

Police, who were watching through a window too small to climb through, demanded that Smetana cease the attack. At that time, police said Smetana briefly paused before grabbing a shard of glass and lunging at the man.

When officers finally got into the apartment they stunned Smetana with a Taser and took him into custody.

The victim, who has not been named, was transported to William Beaumont Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Smetana and victim been acquainted for over a year and had moved in together about a week before the alleged attack.  The nature of their relationship was not disclosed.

Smetana was arraigned in 44th District Court Thursday on the charge of assault with intent to commit murder. Bond was set at $500,000, no 10 percent.
