Oakland County Holds Foreclosure Prevention Forum

AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) - Oakland County is looking to help homeowners on the brink of foreclosure.

County Treasurer Andy Meisner is hosting a free foreclosure prevention forum for homeowners under water on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. in Auburn Hills. He said housing counselors and representatives from several major lenders will be on site.

"It's in our homeowners' best interest and as well as our tax bases' best interest to prevent a foreclosure and all of the costs, both social and economic that happen from the foreclosures," said Meisner.

Meisner said the county has lost $14 million in taxable value because of foreclosures.

"As county treasurer, I'm investing a billion dollars with these institutions, and if they want to partner with us, then they need to know that partnership means looking after these properties, not leaving them blighted and abandoned," said Meisner.
