Man Dies After Broken Down Motorcycle Gets Hit By Car

SALEM TWP. (WWJ) - Police say a 40-year-old Northville man died after his broken down motorcycle was hit by a car in Washtenaw County.

Michigan State Police say Willard Combs was traveling south on Pontiac Trail around 6:40 p.m. Friday on a 1998 Harley Davidson when the motorcycle appeared to break down and came to a stop in the south bound travel lane of Pontiac Trail, just north of 5 Mile Road.

A short time later, police say a Ford Taurus, driven by 22-year-old Sarah Patton of South Lyon, was traveling south bound on Pontiac Trail and struck the rear of motorcycle.

Combs, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and struck the windshield of the Taurus.

Police say Combs was pronounced dead at the scene. Patton sustained minor injuries.

Police say alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
