Smelly Shoes Sought For 'Rotten Sneaker Contest'

LINDEN, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Stinky shoes are more than welcome at Linden County Park in Genesee County for the "Odor-Eaters Rotten Sneaker" contest.

Kids' sneakers will be judged Monday evening based on the condition of the sole, tongue, heel, toe, laces, velcro, eyelets/grommets and odor. "The nastier, dirtier, and more worn out they are, the better,"  according to a press release from Genesee County Parks.

Registration starts at 6 p.m. at the park's Clover Beach Pavilion 1, south of Flint. The contest begins at 7 p.m.

Participants must be ages 5 to 15 and accompanied by an adult. They also must wear their naturally worn sneakers to the contest. Only 25 sneakers will be judged.

The winner will receive $200, the "Golden Sneaker Award," an all-expense paid trip to the national contest next March in Vermont, and a year's supply of Odor-Eaters products.

For more information, call Genesee County Parks at 1-800-648-PARK or visit geneseecountyparks.org.
