Spirit Of Detroit Gets Dressed For School

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Spirit of Detroit is getting dressed just in time for school.

The Martin Luther King High School marching band, the flag and dance team all performed as workers put 300 square feet of a blue "I'm In" t-shirt on the Spirit of Detroit statue.

DPS spokesman Steve Wasko says it's the start of a busy week. "On Wednesday, it's a big back-to-school parade here on Woodward Avenue, beginning at 10:45, stepping off from Grand Circus Park, coming down to Campus Martius," Wasko said. "On Saturday, all of our schools will be open for 4 hours just for district-wide open house. We have ribbon-cuttings of our new schools, grand openings of our new Parent Resource centers."

Wasko also told WWJ's Mike Campbell that Sunday's efforts in the churches to get people to get their kids in the seats on the first day of school -- and every day of school - was well received.
