Officer Suspended, Faces Investigation After Crash

LANSING (WWJ/AP) - A veteran Lansing Police Department sergeant has been placed on paid administrative leave and is the subject of a criminal investigation after he was involved in a traffic crash in DeWitt.

Department officials say the 41-year-old sergeant crashed about 3:30 p.m. Thursday near Chandler and State roads.

Authorities wouldn't specify what crime the sergeant may have committed or whether he was on duty at the time. The unidentified officer has served with the department for 17 years.

DeWitt Township police are investigating. The Lansing Police Department Office of Internal Affairs say they will investigate once the criminal investigation is complete.

Lansing Police Chief Teresa Szymanski said in a statement the allegations are "disappointing and if found true will not be tolerated."

No charges have been filed. No further details were released.
