Canton To Offer 'The Great Artscape' In September

CANTON (WWJ) - Enjoy an exhilarating day of art on Saturday, September 15, as several businesses and organizations in Canton join forces with the Detroit Institute of Arts for an unparalleled art experience.

Start the morning off with a refreshing autumn walk along Ford Road as artist Ken Thompson offers an informational walking tour of Canton's 2012 Sculpture Installation. Shuttles will leave from the Summit on the Park, located at 46000 Summit Parkway, at 9:30 a.m. All registrants will receive a T-Shirt and are invited to enjoy refreshments following the tour. Pre-registration is required. Reserve your spot for just $5 per person.

Next, take in Amy DiPlacido's free exhibit on display in the Gallery of The Village Theater at Cherry Hill, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road. While you're there, let the kids attend a special art workshop from 1-2 p.m. in the vestibule. No registration is required for this free workshop.

If you still haven't had your fill of art and culture, meet at the Summit on the Park for a very special tour of four of the Canton DIA Inside|Out masterpieces, which will be led by official DIA museum docents. These unique riding "Golf cART" tours will begin at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Pre-registration is required for these free tours, which will start from the DIA masterpiece located in the front of the Summit on the Park.

Finish off your day-long art celebration with the talented artists of D&M Art Studio as they host a Fine Art Workshop for Families at their store, located at 8691 N. Lilley Road, from 3-4 p.m. This hands-on program is free, but space is limited. Call 734-453-3710 to pre-register.

All of the morning and afternoon docent-led tours require pre-registration, as space is limited. There is a $5 fee for the Ford Road Sculpture Tours, but the remaining tours and activities are free.
