Work Begins For Challenge Detroit Participants
DETROIT (WWJ) - Thanks to Challenge Detroit, the city has 30 new residents who live, work, and play in the Motor City. They'll also be giving back, too, through their volunteer work.
It all started out with 900 applicants from across the country last year. Now, the 30 selected have been matched with employers, so they'll be living and working in Detroit. They'll be living in different neighborhoods.
"They're living across the city," Challenge Detroit Executive Director Deirdre Greene Groves said. "So we have folks that are living in Woodbridge renting a home. We have others that are living in Lafayette Park, and really enjoying that historic neighborhood. Others are in midtown, downtown; they're everywhere, and that's part of the story. That's what makes this so exciting.
A week-long orientation for the participants gets underway today.
