Pilot And Passenger On Downed Plane Identified
BRIGHTON (WWJ) - The identities of the people on-board a 1940's era single-engine plane that crashed in a swampy area off Woodland Lake in Brighton Township Saturday, killing a passenger and injuring the pilot are now known.
Fifty-six-year-old Ana Ortega, of Costa Rica was killed and the 79-year-old pilot, Walter Davenport, of Brighton remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford says it's unclear why the plane crashed, but says it appears the pilot was attempting to turn the plane around at the time of the crash, based on how it landed.
He says the tail is bent and the front of the plane is buried pretty significantly.
