Michigan Becoming A Travel Hot Spot

LANSING, Mich. (WWJ) - The number of travelers in Michigan hotel rooms during the past year was the highest since 2004.

Travel Michigan says last month, the state averaged 56 percent occupancy. And during July, it went up to almost 71 percent. The vast majority of the half billion dollar increase in spending is coming from out-of-state visitors.

Lake Michigan, meanwhile, has made CNN's top 10 list of best lake vacation spots. The news network says with more than 1,600 miles of shoreline, Lake Michigan offers more beaches than any other American lake.

Lake Superior also landed a spot on the list for best fishing.
