Newcomer Florence Could Start At Cornerback Sunday

There is a chance the Lions could open the season with two starting cornerbacks who weren't with the team a week ago.

With the status of left cornerback Chris Houston's right ankle still unknown and with rookie Bill Bentley coming back Monday after missing a week with a shoulder injury, there is an outside chance the Lions could start veterans Kevin Barnes and Drayton Florence.

"We're in regular-season mode now," coach Jim Schwartz said. "We will have an injury report (on Wednesday). We will get those guys back as soon as we can."

Florence, signed on Sunday after he was released by the Broncos, took some first-team reps on Monday. Barnes, acquired from Washington last Tuesday, Bentley and Jacob Lacey are also in the mix at either right corner or nickel.
