Where's My Bus? Text It!

DETROIT (WWJ) - In Detroit, students and workers who rely on D-DOT buses now have a better way to track when and where their bus is.

'Text My Bus', is as easy as texting in the number 50464 and typing in where you are at.  You will be asked where you want to go and it will tell you how long it'll be until a bus gets there.

" ...(I've typed in) Joy and Evergreen - eastbound - and the three next buses will be seven minutes, forty-seven minutes, and seventy-seven minutes," said Briana Rutland to WWJ's Mike Campbell.

Students say it will help in the morning as they figure out which bus they need to get to school on time.

When you text '50464' it will tell you in real-time the arrival of the next bus at the stop you are at.

"I do know how long it's going to take for the bus to show up, I can sit there and wait or time myself as to how long it's going to take to get where I want to go," said another waiting bus rider.

Police Chief Ralph Godbee said it will also help cut down on crime because people won't have to stand around at bus stops for inordinate extreme amounts of time.
