Wal-Mart To Open $20 Million Warren Store

WARREN (WWJ) - Wal-Mart is returning to Warren.

City officials on hand for the announcement on Wednesday said the company will invest $20 million to remodel its old location on Van Dyke and 12 Mile Road at the Tech Plaza shopping center.

Wal-Mart's Erik Hingst said this means dozens of jobs as the store will employ 270 to 300 people. "And that's the total employment number from top to bottom from the store manager and the pharmacist all the way down to part-time folks who may be working at the cashiers or may be working in the lots collecting carts," he said.

Hingst said they hope to have the store open by summer of 2014.

He said they also plan to maintain Sterling Heights store, just two miles away, saying the communities will be able to support both locations.
