2 Adults, 2 Children Rescued After Boat Capsizes In Lake Erie

TOLEDO (WWJ) - A Good Samaritan must have been a welcome sight for two adults and two children who were rescued from their capsized boat early Sunday morning.

The names and hometowns of those rescued are not being released, but the Coast Guard saide they received a call from a Good Samaritan regarding a boat taking on water in Lake Erie and then saw the boat capsize, sending all four people into the water.

The four people, who were all wearing life vests,  were rescued from the water by the passing boater and then transferred to the Coast Guard rescue boat that came to the scene.

"The Coast Guard was able to rescue these people because of the quickness of the good Samaritan," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Christopher Hovland, coxswain of the SPC-SW. "He did the right thing and called the Coast Guard before he knew they would be capsized."

"It was also a good thing they had on life jackets, because it is easier to wear one than to put one on during an emergency," Hovland said.
